A LITTLE BIT
ABOUT
SILVERLAKE

Welcome to Silver Lake

This east-central LA neighborhood has often been described as the “Brooklyn of Los Angeles”.  Known for its massive reservoir, architecturally significant homes, independently owned businesses, diverse restaurants, painted staircases, and a creative environment, Silver Lake’s once urban grit has become over the years sophisticated chic.

The Neighbors

Living in Silver Lake offers its mostly liberal residents an urban suburban mix feel while enjoying a very low crime rate, making it one of the safest areas to live in LA!

This unique neighborhood is home to celebrities, creatives and professionals.  An ever-increasing number of families are in part due to Silver Lake’s above average rated public schools.

What to Expect

A plethora of bars, nightclubs, and restaurants contribute to Silver Lake’s reputation as being one of LA’s hippest neighborhoods.

Street art, artisanal coffee shops, creative cafes, trendy bars, as well as indie music venues line countless blocks.  This hipster haven has persisted as one of LA's trendiest neighborhoods thanks to its wealth of boutique shops and an ever-growing dining scene filled with outdoor garden patios.

The Lifestyle

Silver Lake embraces the hipster lifestyle defined by its diverse eateries, specialty shopping and unique hiking opportunities.

Need more boutiques?  The walkable shopping district of Silver Lake’s famous Sunset Junction is lined with some of the neighborhood’s best!  As for hiking, this unique neighborhood is populated with steep outdoor staircases.  The Music Box Steps, where Laurel and Hardy attempted to move a piano up in the 1932 Academy Award winning short film, is one of Silver Lake’s most famous staircases.  Undeniably, the most famous and popular feature of this neighborhood is its massive namesake body of water, the Silver Lake Reservoir, which includes a 2.25 mile loop for runners and walkers.

Unexpected Appeal

Silver Lake’s rich history adds an extra layer of pride to this eclectic community.

Since the 1930’s Silver Lake has proudly acted as a space where members of the LGBT community have expressed their identities.  Silver Lake is home to the first gay rights protests in the country.  A historical marker near the entrance of a seemingly typical Silver Lake gastropub, The Black Cat, commemorates where the very first LGBTQ+ civil rights demonstration was held back in 1967.

The Market

Silver Lake offers more architecturally significant homes per square mile than anywhere else in LA!

Low crime rate, good schools plus all the unique offerings Silver Lake possesses attract a nearly equal amount of young single professionals and families, representing this neighborhood’s households.
