South of Angeles National Forest and snuggled at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, is Sierra Madre, a dedicated community with a rich history.  This “Village of the Foothills” is centrally located between Pasadena and Arcadia.

What to Expect

Annual celebrations of Sierra Madre’s historic events add tradition and value to the community.  

Every Memorial Day weekend, since 1908, residents as well as far away travelers compete in the Mount Wilson Trail Race, California’s second oldest foot race.   Sierra Madre proudly celebrates Independence Day with what residents have named a “Star Spangled Weekend”.  This entire holiday weekend is filled with music, art, food, drink and of course, an Independence Day parade. 

The Lifestyle

In addition to Sierra Madre’s quaint roads and lush vegetation, is the city’s unique downtown shopping district.

A popular landmark for visitors, Sierra Madre’s heart lies at the center of its charming downtown.  Populated with a variety of dining establishments and family owned and operated retailers, Sierra Madre’s downtown is known as cordial, creative, and convenient.  Volunteers from the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce continually work to support and provide assistance to keep local downtown businesses thriving.

Unexpected Appeal

Sierra Madre, also known as "Wisteria City”, is home to the world's largest wistaria vine.

Purchased by Alice Brugman in 1894, Sierra Madre’s famous acre long Wisteria vine, holds the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest flowering plant and one of the 7 horticultures wonders of the world!  All can view this awesome sight growing over two private properties once a year during the Wistaria Festival held every March.

Sierra Madre’s housing stock consists of a mixture of styles ranging from the late 1800’s to modern day.

Far from a cookie-cutter community, Sierra Madre offers a mix of historic turn-of-the-century estates, post-WWII midcentury homes as well as 1920’s bungalows, dotting the Lower and Upper Sierra Madre Canyons.
